Brittany Melton
PhD Student, Western University, London, Ontario
About
I am currently completing my proposal and undergoing ethics review at my institution.
I graduated from Brock University with a Master’s Degree in popular culture and through this degree, I found my passion for studying gender performance and representation. Starting my PhD at Western University, my research medium shifted from studying representations of gender in television shows, to looking at gender performance in online communities. This shift took place as my interest shifted from how women are shown in media to how they see their own gender identity.
I am also working for Dr.Jacqueline Burkell as a research assistant on her project “Social Media Research Ethics”. I also continue to work as a teaching assistant on various courses at Western University and Brock University.
Recently, I published my first solo authored journal article “By Women For Women” communicating gender discourse in r/FemaleDatingStrategy” in Feminist Media Studies.
